JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for the overall direction and management of the Tax Compliance activities of the organization in accordance with established policies and procedures. This includes managing tax reporting, maintenance of tax records, planning, and compliance. Responsible for the direct supervision of the staff within the Tax Compliance function if applicable. Provides tax strategy and planning support to guide business decisions. Accountable for research and recommendations regarding the tax position and liabilities of Piedmont Healthcare. Works collaboratively with other departments and external organizations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinates and oversees preparation and filing of all monthly, quarterly and annual federal, state and local tax and information returns, extensions and calculates estimated tax payments. 2. Ensures accuracy and timely filing with proper agencies (e.g. Forms 1120, 990, 990-T, 1065, 720, etc.) on a system-wide level. 3. Works with external tax professionals for related audit and tax reviews. 4. Provides technical tax support to all PHC facilities and entities as-needed. 5. Calculates current and deferred tax provision under FAS 109. 6. Coordinates the preparation of personal and real property tax declarations and related payments. 7. Plans and executes tax strategies that ensure the best use of tax assets and revenues. 8. Works closely with the legal department in evaluating the tax impact of new and/or existing entities or projects. 9. Works collaboratively with corporate functions and the entities to gather data required for tax filings, including but not limited to, community benefits for the 990-T and justification of PHC's tax-exempt status through analysis and reporting. 10. Coordinates all system-wide audits by various state and federal tax authorities and responds to federal and state tax notices. 11. Coordinates with external auditors on income tax related items in financial statements, including the preparation and documentation of FAS 109 and FIN 48 disclosures. 12. Evaluates private use thresholds for tax-exempt bonds. 13. Monitors changes in federal and state tax legislation. 14. Informs management of the impact of relevant tax proposals and implements changes in those areas requiring modification, and communicates the impact of these changes to all PHC facilities and entities. 15. Participates in performance management process including performance evaluation, coaching, and development of direct reports (if applicable). 16. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Skill and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in-writing. Skill and ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Ability to work as a member of a team. Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED: A Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Management, or business related field is required MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Five (5) years of progressive work experience in a Tax role, preferably in a multi-entity healthcare provider environment, is required. MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW: None. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's Degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Accounting, Taxation, Finance or a closely related field, or designation as a Certified Public Accountant is preferred. Strong technical tax background including application and reporting requirements of FAS 109 and FIN 48. Demonstrates mastery of tax regulations at the federal, state and local level. Possesses extensive experience in corporate taxation with an emphasis on tax compliance, preferably in both taxable and tax exempt organizations. Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills at all levels. Demonstrates strong problem solving, project management, teamwork, and organizational skills.
